Work Experiences:

Babylon/Islip Union Free School District, Food Service Intern

August 2014 - February 2015

At Babylon and Islip school districts I interned with the Food Service Director and gained experience in an institutional food service setting. In the beginning of the school year I created newsletters that were mailed to parents to inform them of the new changes to the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act. I also organized the school year inventory and bids by calling each vendor to confirm product availability. As the school year progressed, I analyzed school snacks and maintained production records and participation sheets. I was entrusted to perform register cash counts, create reconciliation forms, bank deposits and HACCP safety audits.

The school food service is a fast paced system.  There is a lot of work that must be complete and a small staff due to school district budgets. Some days flew by due to the large volume and diversity of work that had to be completed.  In order to succeed at this position one must be extremely organized and able to multitask efficiently.  Since I have a strong business background, coupled with organization and multitasking abilities, I believe I did very well as an intern for the Food Director.  I enjoyed the work I did and truly felt I was afforded a great opportunity to learn about school lunch food service.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Nutrition Volunteer

August 2014 - Present

I volunteer with the registered dietitian, who is also the Certified Diabetes Educator, of the Ambulatory Care Unit at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. I shadow Ms. Cantilli and observe her counseling sessions with new prenatal patients, patients with high-risk pregnancies, gestational diabetes, and types 1 and 2 diabetes. My self-confidence and customer service skills continue to develop by creating and leading group and personal nutrition education sessions in the waiting room.  Some topics I have created and executed are new year goals, proper portion sizes, whole grains, calorie consumption, the benefits of breastfeeding, and smart snacks. Cultural competency skills are important due to the varied patient population. Finally, I am able to hone my counseling skills, which I find to be invaluable for my career and professional growth.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Student Liaison, Advisory Committee

September 2014 - Present

As the Student Liaison for the Academy, my main role is recruit and retain student membership and inform Hunter College students of ways to get involved in the Student Advisory Community. I facilitate communication between the Academy and the Nutrition Club at Hunter College. As a result of my efforts, our "Big Apple Crunch" event was featured in the Academy's January Student Scoop.

Eclectic Personal Training, Marketing Coordinator

May 2012 - Present

Eclectic Personal Training is a personal training company my husband and I began in 2012. I demonstrate excellent written communication skills through our newsletters and marketing material. I create monthly promotions to ensure company growth. As a result, the company has continued to increase sales every year, with 2014 sales exceeding 2013 by 23%. I also lead charity events, raising $1470 for American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

Gross Polowy LLC, Paralegal

February 2012- Present

In 2012, I assisted the partner of Gross Polowy in opening and running a second office, which now employs fifteen people. As the first paralegal I held many different roles and positions, as needed. Originally, I maintained the firms' calendar, ensuring no court appearances were missed. Currently, I interview and train new employees, create departmental procedures, and help in different departments while maintaining a caseload of 150-200 files. I independently ensure all paperwork and court deadlines are met while maintaining verbal and written communicating between clients and attorneys. My firm depends heavily on good customer service to our clients (the banks), defendants and outside counsel. I demonstrate multitasking abilities by providing support to an office of 10 attorneys.
